These varioations are written on a famous tune by Abolhassan Saba, a great Iranian composer, called "Dar Ghafas" (In the cage). The piece tries to combine Iranian traditional melody with a free style music and create a new sound in Iranian music. Sketches for this music was written long before 1974 but in the same year composer tried to select five variations out of, at least, eight longer variations he had composed before. This music was first performed on a Steinway piano by, Lucet Martirousian in 1974.
